JOSLYN & THE SWEET COMPRESSION / CARNEY'S MAIN ROOM, TBD
The Story
In the tradition of Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, Joslyn & the Sweet Compression is a breath of fresh air on the contemporary neo-soul scene. Fronted by dynamic singer Joslyn Hampton, the Lexington, Kentucky-based band (guitarist Marty Charters, keyboardist Steve Holloman, saxophonist Trevin Little, trombonist and trumpeter Chase Fleming, bassist Smith Donaldson and drummer Rashawn Fleming) has toured up and down the East Coast, gigged throughout the Midwest and also opened for Tower of Power at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Denver, Colorado. Drawing inspiration from soul icons such as Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey, Joslyn brings her own unique flair to the Exit Zero Jazz Festival.
The Sound
Expect Joslyn & The Sweet Compression to roll out old school flavored originals from their 2019 self-titled debut album, including “Honey, Be,” “What Did You Think Was Gonna Happen,” “Sunday Driver” and “Love on the Double.” And for a treat they may throw in their profoundly moving, gospel-tinged rendition of George Harrison’s ballad, “Long, Long, Long” from that same album. Elsewhere on this Exit Zero debut, they will perform material from their recently released 2023 album, Bona Fide, including the confessional ballad “Truth in the Moment.”
