AIDAN MCKEON QUARTET / Cape May Convention Hall, 11:45 am/ Harry's 3:00 & 5:00 pm
The Story
Rising star tenor saxophonist and Philadelphia native Aidan McKeon has become a ubiquitous figure on the New York scene, having appeared at such venues as the Village Vanguard, Jazz Gallery, Dizzy’s Club, Smalls and Jazzcultural, in addition to making frequent appearances at Chris’ Jazz Cafe in Philly. Currently a member of guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel’s Riptet and drummer Ari Hoenig’s Jazzheads, McKeon makes his Exit Zero Jazz Festival debut as a leader with a quartet featuring pianist Cameron Campbell, bassist John Murray and drummer Vinton Hines.
The Sound
Steeped in the tradition of tenor titans like John Coltrane, George Coleman, Dexter Gordon and Michael Brecker, McKeon brings a big tone to the bandstand along with a remarkably daring sense of freedom as an improviser. The recent Juilliard grad is well on his way to fashioning a voice of his own on the instrument. Witness his progress in action at Exit Zero.
