The Story
The invigorating all-female New Orleans styled brass band from Brooklyn returns to spread a joyful noise at the Exit Zero Jazz Festival. Still rolling on the momentum from 2024’s Hot Tub Sessions Vol. I, this nine-piece group (three trumpets, two trombones, two saxes, sousaphone and drums) will showcase its versatility in a wide range of originals bearing the influence of Balkan music, mambo, the Mummers parade, classic rock ’n’ roll and, of course, New Orleans second line.
The Sound
From the bubbling sousaphone-based funk of “Moon Shine,” with its intricate horn fills, to traditional numbers like “Lil’ Liza Jane” to a faithful version of New Orleans’s own Soul Rebels Brass Band’s “Work It Out” to their energized versions of pop tunes from Chappell Roan’s “Pink Pony Club” to Roberta Flack’s “Killing Me Softly,” Prince’s “When Doves Cry” and Labelle’s “Lady Marmalade,” the party is always on when these Brass Queens hit the stage.
