The Story
Deborah Smith is a Philadelphia-based trombonist, composer, educator, and bandleader with a wide-ranging performance background in jazz, creative music, and genre-blending ensembles. She has performed at venues including Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Dizzy’s Club, The Django, Birdland Jazz Club, and Times Square, and has worked with artists and ensembles including the T.K. Blue Quintet and the Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Future of Jazz Orchestra. She also leads her own projects, including the Deborah Smith Quartet, Quintet, and Nonet. Deborah is committed to music education and equity in the arts and teaches with the Kimmel Center’s Jazz for Freedom program, while also working with BackCountry Jazz.
