HIGH & MIGHTY BRASS BAND / Carney's, May 15, 7:10 & 9:30 PM / David Clemans Second Line, Saturday, May 16, 11:00 AM
The Story
Drawing inspiration from modern New Orleans bands like the Rebirth Brass Band and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, along with Galactic and Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, the dynamic Brooklyn-based High & Mighty Brass Band mixes R&B, hip hop, Afro-beat and New Orleans-style funk that is loud and proud. Their live performances are both fiercely entertaining and refreshingly inspiring, connecting the band with each and every audience member. The rowdy brass bunch guarantees to keep things strictly on the good foot in their debut at the Exit Zero Jazz Festival.
The Sound
When this high energy good time brass band unleashes on upbeat numbers like “Acid Washed Jeans,” the edgy metal-brass anthem “Gypsy” and “Be Thankful for What You Got” from their 2015 album Krewe York: Part I, there is definitely a party in progress. They may even throw in a funkified rendition of Louis Armstrong’s “You Rascal You” to elevate the proceedings a notch.
