The Story

Percussionist Edgardo Cintron, a veteran of the Exit Zero Jazz Festival, is known as much for his affable personality and generous spirit as for his tasty musicianship. Born on August 28, 1958 in Fort Riley, Kan., he attributes his musical influences to his father, Pablo, who played guitar in the U.S. military band and also to Charlie Parker, Stevie Wonder, Carlos Santana and Tito Puente. By the age of five, Edgardo was studying French horn and guitar, and later, percussion, all under his father’s direction.

The Sound

Edgardo Citron brings the fire and elegance of Latin jazz to the stage with a powerful tribute to the legendary Tito Puente, honoring one of the most influential figures in Afro-Cuban and jazz music history. A dynamic performer deeply rooted in Latin rhythms and jazz tradition, Cintron channels the spirit, precision, and joy that defined Puente's iconic sound.

This special performance features Trumpeter John Walsh, who had the rare distinction of performing and recording with Tito Puente himself. Walsh's firsthand connection to Puente's music adds authenticity and depth to the tribute, offering audiences a genuine link to the legacy of "El Rey."
