The Story
This eight-piece all-female street party horn band puts the ‘fun’ in funk. Deeply inspired by the New Orleans brass band tradition, these Queens from Brooklyn have brought their talent and enthusiasm to such venues as Brooklyn Bowl in Williamsburg, DROM in NYC’s East Village and The 2021 Met Gala as well as presiding over a special Galentine’s Day show in the Crescent City. These ladies will definitely kick some brass in their debut appearance at the Exit Zero Jazz Festival.
The Sound
On their latest EP, 2021’s Royal St., the Brass Queens get down with groovy renditions of Cameo’s “Candy,” The Temptations’ “Just My Imagination,” Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams,” The Dap Kings’ “How Long Do I Have to Wait For You?” and a joyful rendition of “Lil’ Liza Jane.” In concert they also pull out spirited brass band renditions of Ariana Grande’s “Thank You, Next,” Lizzo’s “Good As Hell” and Juvenile’s “Back That Azz Up.” Get ready to party, y’all!
