Tameca Jones, Friday and Saturday, Carney's Other Room

The Story

Austin-based soul singer Tameca Jones makes her debut appearance at the Spring 2019 edition of the Exit Zero Jazz Festival. Beginning in 2005 as the leader singer of 8 Million Stories, Ms. Jones went solo in 2008 and has been captivating listeners ever since with her honeyed voice and powerhouse delivery. While breathing new life into covers of tunes by Tina Turner, Elton John, Jimi Hendrix and others helped her make a name for herself as the “Queen of Austin Soul,” Tameca has recently emerged as an accomplished songwriter on the strength of her Motown-inspired EP, Hot and Bothered. A showstopping performer, she has shared the stage with such Austin legends as Gary Clark Jr., Charlie Sexton, Alejandro Escovedo and Patty Griffin. Catch the next big name to break out of the fertile Austin music scene.

The Sound

Tampa's sassy side comes across on her confessional original “Hot and Bothered” while her playful side is represented by “Good Boy.” She takes a mellow, jazzy approach on “Let Me Be” and captivates on her “Are You Awake” while her “Sandman” is brimming with soul-stirring, gospel-tinged intensity. Prepare to be swept away.
