Swift Technique, Friday & Saturday, Cabanas

The Story

Philadelphia’s premier party band is a funky aggregation called Swift Technique. Boasting a punchy frontline of trumpet, trombone and two saxes alongside the dynamic vocal tandem of Chelsea ViaCava and Nik Greeley, this swaggering 10-piece group blends funk, soul, rock, hip-hop and relentless energy in a manner that causes involuntary booty shaking on the dance floor. And with a recent appearance on the award-winning Netflix series, Orange is the New Black, the group is commanding national attention.

Since forming in 2007, Swift Technique has toured all over the country, performing at top-tier venues in New York City, Boston, Hartford, Baltimore, Washington D.C., New Orleans, Nashville, Chicago, Milwaukee, Cincinnati, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego and of course, their hometown Philly. They have shared the stage with such world-class acts as The Meters, Wu-Tang Clan, Snarky Puppy, DJ Questlove, Soulive, Lettuce, Fishbone, Vulfpeck, The Disco Biscuits, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Deep Banana Blackout and Big Sam’s Funky Nation. Swift Technique has also performed at the Philadelphia Experiment PEX Festival, Beardfest, Camp Jam in the Pines, Princeton’s Communiversity Festival, The Northeast Kingdom Music Festival in Vermont and the Grassroots Festival in Ithaca, among others.

The Sound

A big horn band oozing swagger and funk, Swift Technique’s mission is to get you grooving and grinning on the dance floor. Picture a cross between Tower of Power and the Average White Band, with the added attraction of the soulful and sexy vocalist Chelsea ViaCava. Expect to get on the goodfoot when they break out their hit singles “Lucky Bump,” “Dress Shoes,” “Maintaining a Balance” and “Reason to Be” in their first appearance at the Exit Zero Jazz Festival.
